# Build a habit

> Choose a rhythm and keep a completion log without filling your thought feed.

Habits are optional and available on every plan in the web app.

## Turn Habits on

Open **Settings → General** and choose **Habits on**. A **Habits** section appears between Brains and Tags in the sidebar. It starts collapsed, so expand it to see your habits and **New habit**.

Choosing **Habits off** hides the section and keeps your existing logs. The on/off choice syncs with your vault.

## Add a habit

1. Open **Habits** and enter a name under **New habit**.
2. Choose a repeat schedule.
3. Set a **Reminder** time.
4. Choose **Add habit**.

You can repeat every day, week, or month; choose specific weekdays; use **Every N…**; or make a **Custom** rule, such as every two weeks on Monday and Thursday. **Times per period** lets you aim for a number of completions each week or month.

The reminder time changes the habit's in-app state to **Time for this** when it is due. Habits do not currently send email, SMS, or push reminders.

## Keep a completion log

When a habit is due, add an optional note and choose **Complete**. Tuck keeps the completion time and shows a streak, total completions, and how closely you have kept to the schedule.

Completion notes stay on the habit. They are left out of Everything, brain feeds, archive, tag counts, person pages, and AI context in the current web app. Use **Search notes on this habit** to find them.

Type an existing person's `@name` in a completion note to link them. An unknown name stays as text; it does not create a new person. The habit shows who has been mentioned and who has not.

<Note>
  Older clients that do not understand habit notes may still show them in ordinary thought feeds. Habits are documented here for the current web app.
