# Best practices for using Tuck

> Keep capture friction low and let structure emerge from use.

## Capture first

Do not stop to design a taxonomy while a thought is trying to escape. Put it in Inbox and keep moving.

## Prefer a few useful brains

Brains are best for durable areas such as Work, Personal, Research, a major project, or a trip. If every small topic becomes a brain, navigation gets noisy.

## Use tags for cross-cutting ideas

A tag can connect thoughts that live in different brains. Use them for concepts such as `#idea`, `#follow-up`, `#decision`, or `#reading`.

## Keep tags and people in the sentence

Write naturally. `Ask @Maya about #launch next week` is more useful than filling out several fields after the fact.

## Pin sparingly

Pins are most useful for a small number of thoughts you want kept at the top of Stream or Columns.

## Let reminders be reminders

Use a reminder when Tuck should bring something back at a specific time. Use a todo when something needs to be completed and tracked.

## Review Inbox occasionally

Inbox does not need to be empty. A periodic pass is enough to move durable thoughts into the right brain and leave the rest alone.
